The waterproofing of the entire 400-meter section of pavement blocks on the Danube Bridge at Ruse begins
The waterproofing of the pavement blocks and the installation of dowels, reinforcement and communication pipes in the entire over 400-meter long closed section of the Danube Bridge at Ruse has started. The major renovation of the facility continues in the lane heading towards Bulgaria, and the building and construction works are being carried out according to the approved schedule.
Eleven new road panels have been manufactured between October 16 and 22, which brings the total up to 209 new panels since the start of the renovations and a total of 169 road panels were installed in the trestle section. During the past week, the installation of the cornice panels which serve to form the pavement edge of the reinforced concrete road panels was completed in a 34.73-meter long section. So far, a total of 275 meters of cornice panels have been installed out of the 413 meters needed for the flyover section in the right lane.
Boreholes have been made and bridge drains have been installed in a section of about 240 meters for the flyover section in the right-hand traffic lane. A three-layer anti-corrosion protection will be applied to all steel elements. The total length of the section with replaced anti-corrosion protection since the beginning of the renovation is 240.41 meters.
The dismantled 413-meter long railing and 12 lighting poles are being restored as well. The integrity of the damaged individual elements is being restored, and new elements are being manufactured where restoration isn't possible.
In parallel with these works, the renewal of the anti-corrosive coating of the steel support structure continues. Demolition and preparation of compromised surfaces for shotcrete are also in progress.
Building and construction works on the Danube Bridge continue without any disruption of traffic and the facility will not be shut down. The site is being worked on daily during daylight hours. The work process is organized and carried out in such a way that vehicles pass in stages in a reversible manner in the lane which is not under construction.
Up-to-date information on the repair works can be found in the special section "Information on the Danube Bridge repair " on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency. The Agency team provides regular updates on facility repairs and is available for further questions and clarifications.
