The lighting poles and the pedestrian railing in the second closed section of the Danube Bridge at Ruse have been dismantled

The lighting poles and the pedestrian railing in the second closed section of the Danube Bridge at Ruse have been dismantled. Last week, the section of the facility undergoing overhaul was extended by another 200 metres and work is now underway on a stretch of over 400 metres.

From September 18 to 24, 173 meters of the pedestrian railing were removed and cleaning and restoration work began at the site. The existing sidewalk block, 173 meters long, was also demolished.

In the first section, work is being carried out on the renewal of the corrosion-resistant coating of the steel bearing structure, the dismantling, manufacture and installation of new reinforced concrete road panels. Last week, 18panels were produced out of a total of 151 since the start of the construction and installation works. 10 cornice panels have been installed out of 150 so far. A three-layer corrosion protection coating is to be applied to all steel elements, with sandblasting to remove old layers prior to application.

Construction activities continue without traffic stoppage and the facility will not be closed. The site is open 10–12 hours per day, during daylight hours. The work process shall be organised and carried out in such a way that vehicles pass in a staggered two-way manner in the lane not being worked in.
