The repair of the next 200 meters of the Danube Bridge at Ruse has start

The section being repaired on the Danube Bridge at Ruse has been extended by about 200 metres. The temporary traffic organisation of the facility is in the same lane where construction works have been carried out since 10 July. The closure has been carried out gradually and work is now underway on a section over 400 metres long.

In the section where the works are now starting, the guardraiя have been dismantled, the bridge drains have been removed, the asphalt concrete pavement has been milled and the waterproofing has been destroyed. Work is underway to remove the old pedestrian railing, lighting poles and light fixtures. Demolition of the sidewalk cantilever and removal of the existing reinforced concrete road panels is planned. In the first section, work continues on the renewal of the corrosion-resistant coating of the steel bearing structure, the dismantling, manufacture and installation of new road reinforced concrete panels.

In the last week, 5 reinforced concrete panels have been dismantled and 5 new ones have been installed in the section that started the Danube Bridge reconstruction, bringing the total number of removed panels to 112 and the number of installed panels to 99. A three-layer corrosion protection coating is to be applied to all steel elements, with sandblasting to remove old layers prior to application.

330 meters of the collector system for roadway drainage were also removed. It will be replaced with new steel pipes and fittings.

Construction activities are being carried out without traffic stoppages and the facility will not be closed. The site is open 10-12 hours per day, during daylight hours. The work process shall be organised and carried out in such a way that vehicles pass in a staggered two-way manner in the lane not being worked in. The installed traffic lights are to start regulating the traffic after coordination with the Border Police. The traffic lights will be set at longer intervals to ensure optimal crossing arrangements across the bridge. When more vehicles gather in one direction, traffic will be assisted and regulated by traffic signals.
